Windows Phone 8.1.1 How to Installing update Windows Phone 8.1.1 and Denim on Your Lumia

How to Install Windows Phone update version 8.1.1 and Denim on Your Lumia Icon Right Now!

UPDATE: Microsoft now says that this update is rolling out officially. So if you don’t want to wipe out your phone, you may want to simply check for updates throughout the day. –Paul
Lumia Icon owners rejoice: Verizon is poised to officially deliver Windows Phone 8.1.1 and the Lumia Denim firmware updates—which include all of the features from previously passed-over updates like Windows Phone 8.1 and Lumia Cyan—to your handset. But you don’t need to wait: here’s how you can update your Icon right now.
I’ll be quick. I know you’ve been waiting forever for these updates. But just one note up front: This process will erase all of the personal content on your phone. So make sure everything is backed up, both using the built-in cloud backup capabilities on the device and, perhaps, some manual copying to the PC over USB.
OK, two notes. You perform this update at your own risk. I’ll try to help as much as I can, but if this goes south, it’s on you to schlep back to Verizon and hope for the best. If recovering your phone this way makes you nervous, just wait for the official update. It is imminent.
Ready? Let’s go!
Then, run the application. And then connect your Icon to your PC using a USB cable.
01

Click Install.
02
Verify you understand what you’re doing. And then click Continue. The software updates will be downloaded to your PC.
03
Once that’s complete, your phone will be updated. To depress the rising excitement, maybe you should pace around the room a bit or do some air fist pumps. Whatever gets the adrenaline out.
04
Finally, the update is complete. Your phone will reboot. Success!
06
On the phone, you will need to step through initial Setup, as if it was a new phone—which it is, now—or as if you had reset it. But when that’s done … voila! You’re all up to date.

How to Recover your Windows Phone from a Technical Preview build using the Recovery Tool Step by Step

How To: Recover your Windows Phone from a Technical Preview build using the Recovery Tool
It Causes .  You install the latest and greatest', but it doesn’t work, or you hate it, or something that you just really need isn’t available.  So how do you go back?  Well, it isn’t pretty, but it can be done.
First, you’ll need to make sure you have a few pre-requisites satisfied.  You’ll need a Windows 7 or newer computer, with at least 4GB of storage space, and a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer.  You’ll also need a Lumia phone, this recovery tool was developed by Nokia, and won’t work on other brands (but you can’t install WP 10 on other brands yet anyway).

Important! Using the Software Recovery Tool will erase all content stored on your phone, including apps and games (along with app data and game progress), text messages, call history, music, photos and more. If possible, you should back up your phone first (Settings > backup). You will be able to restore a backup once the recovery is complete.Note: The recovery process may take some time depending on your internet connection speed, and you cannot use your phone during the installation. The latest approved version of the software in your phone and model will be installed.

OK, so you know the risks, and you’re ready to recover your Windows 8.x or 10.x phone (if you’re still in the dark ages running Windows Phone 7 on a Lumia device and need to recover your phone, there is a tool for that, too).  The first thing you’ll need to do, on that computer you have ready, is to download and install the Windows Phone Recovery Tool.  Next, follow the instructions, and be prepared to wait:
Download and install Windows Phone Recovery Tool to your computer. If possible, make sure that your phone’s battery is fully charged.
When the installation has finished, start the application and the main screen will appear:

Windows Phone Recovery Tool
If your phone is not automatically detected, disconnect all phones from your computer and press My phone was not detected at the bottom of the main screen.
If prompted, select the phone manufacturer.
Connect your phone to your computer with a compatible USB cable.
Wait for your computer to detect the connected phone and follow the screen instructions. If the phone is not connected within one minute you can try to restart your phone: Keep USB connected, press and hold the Power and Volume down keys simultaneously. Release the pressed keys when phone vibrates.

Press Install software to start installing the software to your phone.
After that, you may have to re-install updates, including to the most recent “GDR” available for your phone, and your apps, but your phone will be back to a state from before you started messing with it.  Good luck!

Windows Phone app for desktop

Windows Phone app for desktop free

Windows Phone app for desktop allows you to sync songs, videos, and photos between your Windows Phone and PC. If you have added your media files folder to the Windows library, it will show up in this program under the "PC" tab. At the same time, contents of your phone are automatically displayed in the "Phone" section.

It classifies Music files into two lists based on Genre and Artist. You just have to select the required files and click "Sync". A separate tab for ringtones is given, but it only lists the songs on your PC, which can be converted to a ringtone.

I occasionally use this program to sync photos between my phone and PC. But I prefer to use standard tools to manually copy songs and videos that I need. The reason for this is that Windows Phone app for desktop doesn't allow you to search music using file-names; it only shows the metadata information.

Since there is no other program to manage Windows 8 phones, one expects more features from the app, such as the ability to access text messages, change phone settings, or install applications. Still, I love it for the neat and clean GUI.
